Stand-Up Science: Zombie Edition
Comedian Shane Mauss (Conan, Prime Video, Comedy Central) brings together science and
stand-up by inviting two different scientists in each city to join him on stage. His mission? To
make intelligent, thought-provoking conversations both accessible and entertaining for lifelong
learners who crave a more elevated comedy experience.
Each show begins with 30 minutes of science-inspired stand-up centered around a specific
theme. Shane then welcomes two local scientists whose research connects to the topic, using
comedy as a springboard for a lively, in-depth discussion. The night wraps with a Q&A session
and a closing set of improvised stand-up inspired by the evening’s discoveries.

Her upcoming book Hijacked explores the surprising and unsettling ways life has evolved to
control other minds.
Originally from a small town in Wisconsin, this former factory worker skipped college to pursue his childhood dream of stand-up comedy. His dry wit and cerebral absurdism quickly earned him regular television appearances on Comedy Central, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel, Netflix, Showtime, Epix, and Amazon Prime.

Given the opportunity to headline nationally, he felt compelled to explore bigger ideas. He always found himself reading science books and having a lot of questions, so he started reaching out to different scientists at universities in each city he traveled to interview them for his science podcast: Here We Are. He has now interviewed over 500 scientists. Shane’s favorite topics on the show include psychology, biology, evolution, cognitive biases, behavioral economics, mating, animal behavior, neuroscience, and consciousness.

As podcasting changed the entertainment landscape, Shane became a regular guest on Duncan Trussell’s Family Hour, Pete Holmes ‘You Made It Weird,’ and has had appearances on many of the biggest podcasts including, Marc Maron’s ‘WTF’, Andrew Santino’s ‘Whisky Ginger’, and Theo Von’s ‘This Past Weekend,’ and Bertcast.

After a variety of science themed one-person shows, Shane decided to make a show about how psychedelics had both inspired him and aided his mental health. Shortly after he embarked was on a 111-city sold-out psychedelic comedy tour ‘A Good Trip’ with a film crew following him for the documentary ‘Psychonautics: A Comic’s Exploration of Psychedelics.’

Shane’s ability to hilariously articulate the most mysterious and intriguing of experiences in a knowledgeable, grounded way quickly gained him attention in the psychedelic space and even inspired Comedy Central’s animated psychedelic series ‘Tales From The Trip,’

In 2021 Shane combined all of his passions and collaborated with visual artist Ramin Nazer for the comedy and philosophy podcast Mind Under Matter. In 2022 they did a one-of-a-kind immersive, physical manifestation of the show with The Mind Under Matter Campout Festival which combines bands, science talks, comedy shows, wellness, and visionary artists with community.

In 2023 Shane collaborated with VJ and digital artist Michael Strauss to provide real-time visuals to his performance for his Vegas residency at the immersive psychedelic entertainment space Area15. They are now taking the show on the road to over 150 cities.
