Memphis native Don Trip holds fast to his roots as a street rapper, even though he has stood next to Macklemore, Danny Brown, and Future for XXL Magazine's 2012 Freshman Class and has made songs with rap legends like Juicy J and Young Dolph. A nonstop work ethic has kept Don Trip grinding out a steady stream of mixtapes, EPs, and other projects that often come out within months of each other. Trip has kept his hustle up with a steady flow of independently released mixtapes in the late 2000s right on through to more fully realized studio efforts like 2023's The Devil You Know, multiple collaborations with Starlito, and parts one and two of Forgiveness Is God's Job (2025).Born Christopher Wallace in Memphis, Tennessee, Don Trip grew up in a rougher part of the city and his family struggled financially. Trip was working by the age of twelve, and at 15 he was inspired by Jay-Z, 2pac, and strangely enough the success of child pop rap phenomenon Kriss Kross to start rapping himself. In hopes that it would help his family, Trip began releasing his songs and performing live. Although he has been active since the mid-2000s, Trip's output became prolific just after the turn of the following decade. In 2011 alone, he released volumes in two series of solo mixtapes (one based on the Human Torch and one based on the Terminator), collaborated with Nashville native Starlito on Step Brothers, and hit Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart with "Letter to My Son," released on Cool & Dre's Interscope-affiliated First Family imprint. Step Brothers Two landed in 2013, then Trip resumed solo work with Godspeed, The Head That Wears the Crown, and 2 Clip Trip, independent titles released across 2015 and 2016. He and Starlito reconvened for Step Brothers Three in 2017. The following year saw Trip drop the full-length Christopher, which included features from Jus Bentley, Starlito, 8Ball, Singa B, and Bink4sho.Trip's stream of output continued apace, and along with guest spots on tracks for many other artists, the next several years saw the rapper release titles such as the 2021 album Pray God's Not Watching, the 2022 mixtape Christopher: Season 2, and several EPs. The Devil You Know, the most notable project of a dozen he released in 2023, included guest work from now-frequent collaborator Starlito, Kendrick P., Casino Jizzle, and others. Another dozen mixtapes and EP-length releases arrived throughout 2024, and in 2025, he connected with Starlito for Step Brothers 4 Life (plus subsequent editions Step Brothers Four & a Half and Step Brothers 4 Life & After) while also delivering his own Forgiveness Is God's Job...Part 1 and Forgiveness Is God's Job...Part 2. Deluxe versions of the latter two projects followed in 2026. ~ David Jeffries

“Authority Zero has never been called “negative.” Even during a pandemic, they kept their collective chin up, put their heads down and wrote what could be called their career album. Released in June 2021, Authority Zero’s album “Ollie Ollie Oxen Free” takes a line from hide and seek to encourage fans to leave the COVID-19 depression behind and celebrate life. During the pandemic, singer Jason DeVore saw families torn apart by political views and COVID-19. Now that the divide has somewhat subsided, it’s time to come out and be yourself again. “The phrasing in the title track stems from the idea of ‘come out, come out, wherever you are,’” says DeVore, who co-writes with bassist Michael Spero. “It encourages a focus on the positive side of 2020, while still maintaining awareness of the hardships and detriment of it all. People have been trapped within themselves, depressed inside of their houses and otherwise. We’ve been separated both politically and mentally between the left and right, which is very apparent. It’s a focus of come out, feel free and feel a sense of confidence to live with an unheavy heart and mind again.” The title track rattles those cages with DeVore’s encouraging lyrics, the frenetic blur of Christopher Dalley’s urgent drumming and Spero’s bass, coupled with guitar licks true to the playing style of returning guitarist Brandon Landelius. With its updated sound, “Ollie Ollie Oxen Free” fits in with Authority Zero’s catalog, DeVore says. “It’s more of the times of 2020,” he says. “We really tried to focus more on the positive side of things that came from the pandemic, rather than the negative that came out of it. “We inflect lyrics and music in an uplifting manner. We wanted to shine a light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Gully Boys origin story begins in the aisles of a Minneapolis thrift shop. Vocalist/guitaristKathy Callahan (she/her) and co-worker Nadirah McGill (they/them) spent their days sharingdreams and building a friendship amongst racks of forgotten treasures. When Kathy confidedher desire to sing in a band, it set off a groundswell of events: Nadi grabbed a pair ofdrumsticks, and the two invited middle school friend Natalie Klemond (she/her) to join on bass. From there, a cover of Best Coast’s “Girlfriend” marked the start of a journey fueled byundeniable chemistry, channeling the raw energy of legends like No Doubt, Garbage, and Holeinto a sound that’s galvanizingly Gully.

About the artist: Los Angeles based electronic duo Spike Hellis comprises of Cortland Gibson and Elaine "Lainey" Chang, who got their start on Halloween of 2019. They self-released their first full-length, self-titled album in April 2022 under their imprint Over-Pop. The album chaotically shifts pace back and forth, with the songs running seamlessly into one another. The record opens with "Control (Rage)", a layered, firm-handshake body-music track designed to hijack the amygdala. The kick drum resembles the steady flash of a panic button. You press it, but nothing happens—no relief. The irregular placement of snare matches Chang’s cries of dysregulation, spiraling red-eyed after having lost command asking, “Will I regain control?” While presented as a song of despair, optimism and determination shine through in the final line as the question is taken back and turned into a statement, “Watch me regain control”. This is a theme that permeates throughout the album: Taking challenging times of despair and coming through the other end with hope and optimism. Spike Hellis (S/T) was made with the intention to feel jolting. Techno-tinged "Flight" is an SH-101 track wherein lyrical instructions for escaping a dream are chanted over the iconic rubber band sound, with the claps paying homage to Charlie's "Spacer Woman". "Slices" is the funky first single which leads into its supplementary counterpart, "Stitches". Footsteps grow louder until it opens into a dark waltz. Samples of William S. Burroughs cackling ring out over Emulator arpeggios until we arrive at "Teardrops (Kisses)". While it is perhaps the most light-hearted track on the album sonically, themes of social punishment and isolation push through the surface to reveal conflict at its core. Chang and Gibson trade off cries of shame and humiliation while distorted synths swirling in polyrhythms close out Side A. Side B continues with the song "Help"—a straight-forward, freestyle number with a pinch of synth-pop. The disjointed "Cause of Death" may be the most challenging song on the record. Floating between major and minor scales and heavy handed sampling, this track takes Spike Hellis from the dance floor to the speedway. Lacing each verse with the line “I never rush, but I like to speed”, a nod to taking risks and enduring hardships in favor of triumph in the long run. Arguably the biggest cut from the record is the closing track "Mouth". This minimal track winds its way through a four-verse build. Chang’s pitch-shifted voice softly narrates a catch-and-release scenario in which baiting fish is used as allegory for manipulation. “Baby look at you, setting your hook in my mouth - Reel me in, rip it out”. Since finishing the album, Spike Hellis has hit the road hard with zero hesitation—completing tours throughout North America, Europe and Latin America. They've performed in good company with artists and friends, including ADULT., Kontravoid, Choir Boy, Portrayal of Guilt, Plack Blague, Pixel Grip, Twin Tribes and numerous others. They have made frequent appearances at festivals such as Cold Waves, Ombra, Grauzone, Sound and Fury, Substance and Sanctum. Blasting their bleak outlook and spreading their gospel of disenchantment and sarcasm, Spike Hellis announce their arrival.
